A great and must read article: mazda rx8 for sale

Q: Mazda RX8 for sale………????
Just wondering if anybody knows of a RX8 going for around 8,000$ with miles atleast under 120,000

A: To dispute Kenny’s obvious thorough knowledge of the RX8 and all things rotary…

0-60 in 5.9 seconds is pretty quick. Other cars are faster in a straight line but very few can keep up with the 8 on a road course…which is what the car was designed for.

The Wankel Rotary engine does consume oil by design. A small amount is injected into the combustion chambers to lubricate the apex and side seals. You’ll probably need to add 1 quart between 3000 mile oil changes. This is hardly “eating” oil.

They are no more expensive to maintain than any other motor. In fact since they are such a simple design with no pistons, valves, camshafts, rocker arms, connecting rods, etc, maintenance can be cheaper provided the motor is properly cared for. Rotary’s tend to either run or not run. With only 3 moving parts to the basic motor if something goes wrong you either rebuild or replace the motor. The cost of 2 cylinder head rebuilds on my old Eagle Talon’s 4G63 Mitsu motor was more than the cost of a rebuilt rotary engine. I’ll never have to worry about that on my RX8.

Now, stating all that…finding a reliable one at the price you specify is a real long shot. You might find one a wholesale auction in that range, but I would REALLY recommend finding one under 100K miles as Mazda’s motor warranty is 8 year/100K miles (provided you or Mazda has appropriate maintenance records).

Buying a used rotary engined car always carries the risk of needing a new motor. They can be very reliable **if** properly maintained, but can die early if not. Unless you know the seller and know it was maintained correctly then you should assume and budget for a motor rebuild/replacement.

Q: Does the Mazda RX8 come with a turbo?
I don’t know much about the RX8’s, im a 1st and 2nd gen eclipse turbo man, but I found an RX8 for sale with a turbo that I may be interested in and was just wondering if some were made with and without turbos by the factory. Just wondering if it could be an actual stock turbo or aftermarket.

A: the turbo would be after market, the RX-8 came with a naturally aspirated rotary engine. truth is if you are considering buying a car, i would go for the Nissan 350Z over the RX-8. they are direct competition, yet i would choose the nissan without any hesitation. it looks better, is more powerful and most importantly more reliable. rotary engines can be a massive pain in the ass.

Q: used car sale on craigslist! possible scam?
i was in the craigslist site and I saw a mazda rx8 for sale at $2,800 so i wasnt sure about this. I sent this guy emails to kind of get some more information out him, but i only got more info about the car and a transaction deal with ebay. I would appreciate if you can leave your email so i can send you a copy and tell me what you think. Thank you.
@alfredb1 the black rx8 with the chrome rims was the one I saw. i guess all of you are right. The guy I emailed didnt send me an address or a phone number which makes it more obvious that it is a scam. Thank you for your time.

A: No need to send anything.

It’s too good to be true = scam. You are not in line for a cheap RX8, so no need to be secretive here.

This would be one of those examples.

Which one of these RX8s did you think you were getting–out of the 18 listed–anyway?

Q: 2005 Mazda RX8 should i buy? 40k miles clean car fax never had recall or anything. sound good?
A local BMW dealer has the car for sale, i figured by 40k it woulda had the engine recall already so do you guys think its ok now?

A: Get the VIN# and go check with a Mazda dealership to see what they have on the car.

There are 2 main recalls for the ’05s. One is an engine check (compression and vacuum leakdown test) and the other was for heat shielding for the exhaust. You can also make sure the car qualifies for the factory-extended core motor warranty of 8 year/100K miles. If it qualifies and everything else looks good then you should be safe to purchase.

Since you don’t know how the motor was cared for it would be good to assume it may have some carbon build-up issues. If the motor was tested a while ago you may want to have it done again. Then I’d recommend doing a carbon clean up (kits available from Mazda) or hitting the highway for a good 6+ hour run to burn off any deposits that could cause problems. Carbon build-up is a killer of rotary engines.

Q: 04 or 05 Mazda Rx8 Good Choice for College Student?
Hey guys,

Okay so I have sort of a special situation here. My parent put aside money for me which grew dramatically since when I was young. My college is basically paid for (including med school which I’ll be trying to get thru in 4 years). I need a car, were going to sell my current one, and I have about 15k to spend of my money, combined with the sale of my car. I could get a Mazda Rx8, 04 or 05, which would be a fun car, and it has great rating all over the board, for about 14k. I could get it with about 27,000 miles on it. I was wondering if you think this is a good car for a college student?

how are repairs cost wise?
I know it CAN guzzle some gas, but its only 2mpg less than my volvo right now.

Opinions please?

A: Well, just ask yourself what you’ll be using it for.

To you want to haul things?
Big trunk?
party car? fit all your friends in it?
fast?
good MPG?

also look at the mileage, if it’s less and fits your qualifications, i say go for it my friend.

they are very fun cars.

Best of luck,
Brian.

Q: Is driving aggressively a way to maintain RX8 rotary engine?
I was looking at getting a Mazda RX8 recently but was turned off by the sales rep who told me I’d be better off with another car because, unless I plan to drive the RX8 like I stole it (i.e., aggressively), it will hurt the engine. Is this true that you have to drive it like that to maintain a rotary engine? I’ve never heard of such a thing for a rotary engine or any other engine. Please and thank you!

A: A friend of mine had one of those so I learned about it from him…

Rotary engines can take fairly high revs but there’s no need to drive like a lunatic, no. :) The main thing is to warm up the engine for a short time at startup so there is no risk of seizing the rotors. About 30 to 60 seconds is enough. Then drive it at under about 3,000 rpm till the temp shows around normal.

The car’s engine needs to be given a chance to cool down if you’ve really been pushing it. Check out the thread I’ve given in “sources” for more info from owners.

Q: Ebay Scam for Mazda RX8?????
Hi, so i found a Mazda RX8 on autotrader. It turns out its in Montana and the guy is selling it on ebay. Do you think this is a scam or no?

emails:

Hey,
I am selling this car because my unit will be sent back to Iraq.I have no use for the car anyway, due to my job.The price is low because I need to sell it before Oct 25th. The car is in great condition and runs great. I have a clean title ready to be signed. The car has no electrical or mechanical problems. It is still available for sale if interested, price as stated in the ad.The car is in Billings, MT; in case it gets sold I will take care of shipping. Let me know if you are interested, email back.

Hey,
Thank for your reply.Yes the price is $4700.I will ship it with DAS. I think I can have it there in 5-7 working days. I will take care of the shipping charges as I told you in my first email. It will come with a clear title and reg. I am a member of the eBay buyer protection program and using this service you will get a 3 days testing period after delivery. During that 3 days testing period I will not be getting any money. I need to know if you are interested so I can ask eBay to send you the details on this deal. If interested please include in your next email your contact info for eBay (name, address and phone number), so we can get the ball rolling.
Thanks,
Martin

A: I guess I missed key points in the letter before…Looks like the guy that wrote the letter is acting totally separate from Ebay…so, something does seem fishy…

Don’t try to buy this…It does sound like a guy who listed on Ebay is trying to go outside the rules of Ebay to sucker you into something…

Q: Would you trade this for an Rx8?
I have a 2002 Camaro. It has 47052 miles on it and is automatic. There isn’t anything wrong with the title. It gets about 14-17 mpg compared to its original 17-21. The A/C is great (as long as you keep it in the garage during 110 degree weather).

The upgrades are as follows:

$2000 for the tires
$1000 for the body kit
$700 for custom muffler system
$200 bucks for halo CCFL headlights

Mechanically, the A/C will be blowing 79-84 during las vegas summers of 107 degrees if you leave it outside but will blow ice cold if garaged. There is the usual rock chips on the front bumper and there are small scratches and even swirl marks here and there. A large paint fissure on the rear bumper. The engine is still outstanding, power is there accompanied with the smooth sound of the custom exhaust which makes it sound like a ferrari.

KBB value for my car is 9,170 for good and 8,270 for fair. I would be honest and go with fair.

Honestly I don’t think this car fits me at all. I’m an 18 year old asian kid who needs to go to college 30 minutes away and driving this car is not an option. I really like the rx-8 and my local craigslist has used 60000+ miles rx8’s on sale for like 9400-10000 bucks.

Pictures can be found here:

Do you think it’s a good idea to trade this car for 2004/2005 mazda rx8 with 60000+ miles?

A: It appears to me you are looking for form as opposed to function. Nobody is going to care what kind of car you drive to college. Get an econobox i.e. VW Golf TDi or Jetta TDi, and pay more attention to the books as opposed to your ride.

Oh, and one more thing- there is no way a GM engine, exhaust or not, can sound like a Ferrari.

Your ride won’t get you on the Dean’s list.

Q: Trade In, what happens?
I have a 2008 Mazda RX8, I would like to trade it in for a 2006 VW Jetta TDI. However, the Jetta is about ten thousand dollars less than my car. I bought my RX8 out right, so I owe nothing. Really I’m asking, What happens? Do they give you the difference? How does this work, I know i could sale it myself, but that takes to much time. But, i might have to if they don’t give the difference, Thanks

A: Most dealers will never give you the full price of the new car as a trade. They will usually find some reason to downgrade your vehicle’s worth so you will end up paying them something. If you might take a little advice, Keep the Madza. The Jetta is not the car that it is made out to be. It is one of the most repaired cars sold in America today. They seem to have a lot of problems.

Q: car sales gone wrong!!?
almost 2 weeks ago i trade my mazda rx8 for a 2006 mustang gt, they gave me 10000$ for the rx8 and i owned 14000$ on it so i have 8000$ downpayment. 4000$ so i can payoff the rx8 and 4000$ for the mustang gt. they told me my credit was accepted and the car was mine and i even sign the papers with 8% and 309$ a month, but now they call me saying that i have to get a new bank becouse the guy from finalcial didnt ask me how many hours i work. i work 30 hours a week and i get 14,50$ per hour. they sold my rx8 the 3rd day they got it and we alredy tried with 2 banks and they have denied the car loand. all the time i ask what the worth thing can happen they dont answer. so here is my question what can i do if i dont get a car loan? and even if i get it i sign for 8% and 309$ a month payment… should i contact a lawyer if they ask me for the mustang back?

A: Hello Gaz
So here is what really happened. You were “spotted”, that means they delivered you the car before the loan was totally accepted. Their fault, your fault, it doesn’t matter. Your loan wasn’t approved. Your credit was not accepted your credit application was accepted. There is difference and you most likely signed a bailment agreement that covers the dealerships legal situation. You give a dealership $8000 down and they are putting in a car and try to get you approved later. They have failed at that. They must give you your car and your $8000 back. They say they sold your car. You can not sell a car without a title to it. They did not pay your loan off so they must get the car back. They can because they probably wholesaled it to a used car dealership to get more cash flow. They have to do these things, all of it. You must give them there car back, but you must demand your car back or pay your loan on it off. Most likely this won’t happen. But demand your $8000 back and do not accept less. Good Luck BS .
